Cakes - I would suggest doing this trail from Brush Creek to Gothic as it will give you the most singletrack bang for your buck. That said, folks do it both directions. From Brush Creek, you climb to the West Brush Creek/Pearl Pass fork and take a left. Climb more (get used to it) until you get to the next fork where the sign says Deer Creek and go left.
