Patagonia Men's Merino 1 Silkweight T-ShirtProduct: Maybe I didn’t get the memo, but this does not feel like what I expected wool to feel like. The weave and cut of the Patagonia Men's Merino 1 Silkweight T-Shirt is tailored to move with the wearer without signaling its presence. The style is clean and simple, yet the function belies the engineering that makes this garment so sweet. And, man, is it soft!MSRP: $60Colors: Black, Fresco Blue, Deep Space, Mission Olive, Feather Grey Pitch: We've thrown summer heat, muggy bus rides and weeks without a laundry at this shirt and it still keeps us cool, resists odors and feels soft on the skin. The lightest of our merino fabrics, Merino 1 Silkweight is made to keep you dry and comfortable in warm-to-hot conditions. Merino wool is naturally breathable, regulates body temperature and stretches. It's also wonderfully soft and naturally resists odor. Our wool comes from non-mulesed Australian merino sheep. We slow wash it for softness and shrink resistance without the use of chlorine, then blend it with 35% polyester (100% recycled) for durability, dry times and moisture transfer superior to that of 100% merino. The offset shoulder and side seams lie smoothly beneath pack straps. Machine-wash cold; machine dry at low temperatures. Fabric is bluesign® approved. Tech:Details
MaterialChlorine-free Wool Raw, untreated wool has scales that make it itchy and coarse and cause it to shrink, so most wool fabrics are treated with chlorine to reduce the scales. But chlorine is a pervasive pollutant that’s especially harmful to organisms living in water and soil. We remove the scales from our merino wool fibers using a unique chlorine-free process that’s bluesign approved. TechnologyAt Patagonia we seek to build the best product and cause no unnecessary harm. That's our mission statement, and it takes many forms. As it applies to making products, we work hard to source materials and use processes that are less harmful to the Earth without compromising quality. Because to us, quality is not only how well a product performs and holds up, but also how it's made. Plus: Soft and comfortable. Second-skin feel. So far, the garment has stood up to the rigors of bike rides in desert heat, backcountry mountain ascents and descents, hiking, running, and many rounds through the washer and drier without any negatives to report. The shirt has staved off the pungence that creeps into Capilene over time. The softness of the material is perhaps the biggest plus. Wearing the right base layer is one of the most critical pieces to gearing up and having a layer that breathes, wicks and moves with the wearer is paramount. The Patagonia Men's Merino 1 Silkweight T-Shirt is pretty close to perfect. It is also worth noting that Patagonia’s Ironclad Guarantee, Common Threads initiative, and 1% for the Planet are all really good aspects of Patagonia’s business model that you help perpetuate with a purchase.Minus: Cost. It is easier to find cheaper base layers. It is, however, worth considering the big picture about where your money goes and what it supports.Gut Feeling: If you consider what you wear on an epic as important as what you ride, it is worth the time and resources to get into truly well-conceived and executed garments as the Merino baselayer line.
