2011 Revelation WC Dual Position Air

Product: We had local mechanic Mark Cram cut the steer tube and mount the Revelation WC on my Trek Remedy 9.8 the same day that I was heading to Moab, UT to ride its technical and demanding terrain.  My plan was to shuttle the La Sals to Porcupine Rim as many times as possible.  First ride on the fork was Amasa Back to Rock Stacker to Jackson's riding with a fast group who didn't allow me to slowly adjust to the new fork.  The confidence was immediately where it needed to be for the technical sections and drops that the ride exposed us to.  The stiffness of the one-piece carbon tapered head tube was noticeable allowing for very quick preloads up and over ledges on the climb to the top.  Needless to say, I was very excited to see what the fork had in store for me on the downhill - the Revelation WC did not disappoint.  The stiffness was noticeable on the steep drops, I was blown away by the lack of flex in the fork while still feeling as plush as a WC fork should.  On some drops where a slacker head tube angle would have been a plus the Revelation WC handled the steep drops without any quivering or vibrations that I have felt in other forks.  The 15mm Maxle Lite thru axle and increased support at the lower end of the legs also adds to the stiffness of the fork.  Three of the next five days were spent riding the Kokopelli Down to Porcupine Rim where a Super D and a DH race was scheduled to be run the following weekend.  This fork really would have been a great choice for the Super D course.  I rolled into some of  the incredibly brutal rock gardens at very high speeds and the fork soaked up some hits that would have tested any 8" fork on the market and the Revelation WC held it's own.  I literally saw broken parts of other forks in these rock gardens. What a trail to test the durability and dependability of bike products!  Now, I understand why there are so many bike repair shops in Moab. The Revelation did not show a hint of oil leakage and the air pressure in both the upper and lower chambers never dropped.  Very Impressive!!! Since the shuttled rides, I have ridden varied trail conditions and the fork has been nothing but incredible. I have found that adjustments of 10 psi. make noticeable changes to the performance. This fork really makes me want to ride the nearest dual slalom course. The confidence that it allows me to have in berms and corners is inspiring.  Rock Shox has done a superb job of meeting the demands of us 6" trail bike junkies, especially with the introduction of the Reverb seat post dropper. These two products work perfectly together to improve climbing and descending characteristics of my Trek Remedy 9.8.  The Revelation WC also allows for larger disc rotor sizes, up to 210mm.

Pitch: TODAY’S REVELATION: RIDE MORE.

This year’s Revelation brings an all-new Dual Position Air spring system to the table, adding approximately 30mm of sag-to-sag, on-the-fly,travel adjustment to this proven lightweight platform. The smooth responsiveness provided by the various Motion Control damping systems, paired with the confidence that comes from ultra-stiff 32mm aluminum upper tubes, Maxle Lite and 150mm travel options, is epic. Even when the trail is hell, this fork is pure heaven.

Plus: Many!  "Air Guides" printed on the legs of the fork for easy referencing.  Adjustable travel from 130mm to 150mm with a flip of a knob.  Under 3.5 lbs.  Plenty of beginning-end stroke adjustment for those who like to customize the fork to terrain.  Stanchions are easily cleaned with extra clearance from the forks uppers.  Maxle Lite thru axle easy and quick removing and installing front tire with no threat to dangers that quick releases pose.  WC colors!!

Minus: Not many!!!  I would have liked to have a little more time tuning in the fork (lots of technology).

Gut Feeling: Most of my Gut Feelings are in the intro.  The Revelation WC is everything that you should expect from a fork brave enough to fly the WC colors.  Great Job Rock Shox!!  The Revelation WC made an already sweet 6" trail bike even sweeter.  Look forward to riding it in the Evolution Bike Park on the jump lines and man-made features.  I didn't find any type of terrain or condition that the fork didn't perform well in.
Five Stars!!!
