Gunny got a little more snow than I had hoped. There is now more snow than dirt on the trails at Hartman Rocks. However,  there were still riders out there making tracks. I found myself searching for freshies.

Has anyone ridden Hartman's lately? How are trail conditions?  Looks like the weather will be good this weekend.

Belt drives are cool. The way to go if your into onies, IMO.

Dale's Pale Ale cans are well designed if you find yourself in a pinch.

Val Di Sole was his 5th win out of 7 World Cup DHs this year. The dude is absolutely ruling. To go that fast, consistently, amazing.

Are you still working on this purchase choice? If so, my first question is, why do you want a new bike ? (since you already have a 2011 Remedy). (There is no bad answer, I'd get a new bike every month if I had the dough)
The Nomad is by no means hefty, at 6.06lbs for the frame that's very light for a 160mm bike.
It is designed to be a little more of an aggressive bike, they have slightly shorter top tubes (.2" shorter for a large) and a 1 degree slacker head tube angle. You could set up a Nomad with a big fork and big tires and it could be a sweet ride for bike parks, or set it up light and it will weigh less than many high-end trail bikes. The Remedy swings a little more towards the XC side of All-mountain and I wouldn't consider it as versatile as the Nomad.  That may not matter, depending on how you intend to ride it. In spite of the 10mm travel difference I couldn't guess which one climbs better.

I'm guessing you would want a large size in either. The biggest sizing difference is in the seat tube length, 19.5" for the Trek and 18.5" for the SC. As long as the 18.5" is tall enough to get the right saddle ht., it would just be a matter of more seat post showing.
Stick with what you know or try something new? At the price level you're looking at, I think you'd be stoked with either. I'd try the Nomad.

Nice holeshot for the Banana.

I was very impressed with this bikes ability to kick ass on the whole trail. Although I've always respected their product I've never been a big fan of the big S. This bike changed that. I used to think Specialized bikes preferred to stay on the ground, but the Stumpy has evolved into a bike that is super fun on the DH, easy to manual and pop off trail obstacles. It is very nimble but still has a degree of stability that is lacking in many xc/trail bikes. It climbs like a goat, but my one complaint may be that it tends to wheelie and wonder a little more than my current ride on super steep climbs. This is probably due to the short chainstays, but that is also why it gets killer traction and you can stand while climbing more than other dually trail bikes. I never felt the need to dial down the Fox TALAS fork, that probably would have eliminated the wondering front wheel, but it wasn't even a big enough issue to to reach down and flip that dial. The Brainshock worked great, you could set it to be very active, or to eliminate all suspension movement until you hit something hard enough to open it up. I preferred to keep the "brainfade" adjustment just firm enough to reduce pedal bobbing when seated, which kept the ride smooth and seamless.

Now I am lusting for aI Stumpjumper EVO version. It should be an even better descender.

That was a good tour. I think Evan's just shows his pain a little more than some of the others, he sure seemed to have the power when he needed it. IMO he won the tour when he alone shortened the gap to Andy on stage 18, then he dominated the tour by crushing all of the GC competitors in the time trial.
I just read a blurb that said Contador is a possible starter for the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. I wonder what other superstars will race it.

incredible. I know this guy has been around for a bit, but its like he came out of nowhere to dominate the World Cup DH scene. awesome to see a rider improve so dramatically.

Another crazy day at the tour. gnarly crashes took out more top guys. And the guy that flipped and flew into the barbed wire, bloodied up and his shorts completely ripped off, then got up and finished, that's gnarly. (he got new shorts first)

I was bummed to see Horner drop out, not that I blame him after that crash. It was eerie to see him on the stretcher asking if he had finished the race, twice within about 30 seconds. (he had finished, he rode something like 25 miles after the crash.)

pretty sweet. I think its awesome to see a trail bike with ISCG tabs, sounded like it was front der compatible too.

A good race indeed. it was cool to see the GC contenders battle for a win this early in the race. I wish they still had time bonuses so the placing would matter for the overall. I thought it added another element of strategy. Although, apparently, they didn't need the motivation to sprint for placing.

that looks really cool. I'm so stoked to see the sport grow and reach this level where communities are supporting parks.
